Tommy got involved in snowmobile racing at the amateur level in the early 70’s. He became involved at the professional level in 1977 and continued in the sport until 1982. During Tommy’s five-year professional career he accomplished a number of successes in Professional Snowmobile Enduro Racing, the following are but a few of these accomplishments. His team won its first 250 Mile Enduro mile race that he entered followed by a 2nd and third place finishes at the next two races. The team finished 4th in the nation in points the first year in racing. The Budweiser team asked Tommy to crew chief at the first Enduro World Championship at Eagle River Wisconsin, which the team went on to win. Tommy’s team’s successes gained them factory sponsorships with Yamaha in 1978 and Ski-Do from 1980 -1982. When asked, Tommy said what he thought was his biggest accomplishment was getting the right people on the team doing the right job. “We had the best drivers, and crews and everybody knew what to do at all times”. “Any professional race team whether it is snowmobile racing or drag racing has to have good drivers and good crews that can work together”. “The job of the man in charge, whether it is the owner or the crew chief, is to insure that this happens”.
